Donations
The Humane Society of Durham Region is a non-profit registered
charity. We receive no government funding. Our operating costs
are covered solely by donations, adoptions and fundraising events.
All donations are tax deductible.
Anyone working can have
charitable withdrawals from
their paycheques to be
forwarded directly to the shelter!

Phoenix Rising Update
On December 17th, 2010 the doors opened to our new Shelter located at 1505 Wentworth Street in Whitby.
Within days we had moved all of our animals into their new home and soon they were joined by many others. At Christmas we were almost full to capacity, housing 18 dogs and 100 cats.
We are so grateful to all those who donated to help us build this new facility but we still need help to finish paying for it. We have a shortfall of $375,000.00 that we still have to raise before we will be able to concentrate completely upon the care of the animals.
You can help by participating in any of our upcoming fund raising events. For information on these please check out the upcoming events section of our website. We also still have the buy a brick program in place as well as various naming opportunities for rooms, cages, benches, and other items. We provide a tax receipt for any donation of $10 or more.
If you have not had the chance to visit our new shelter please drop by and see us. You will be overjoyed to see how well the animals are doing in their new home and how happy they are. A far cry from the way they have been housed in the past. It is a bright and lively place where the animals have plenty of space to get exercise and stimulation while awaiting their new home.
Durham Region finally has a shelter to be proud of. One that is now considered the benchmark in animal care. Please become a part of it by donating.
