We've added a new segment about some of our long
term or special needs animals that have been recently adopted
into loving new homes. Kay has written a little blurb about
some of the animals that often got passed over because of age,
looks or disposition. Now they are happy endings. As you read
these wonderful stories, remember this is all possible because
of your support and belief in us.
Chantel (cat)
Chantel came to our shelter when she was 1 yrs
old, she had serious cage aggression. You could not touch Chantel
or even look at her. She was placed into our Quarantine room
(kitty rehab), the dedicated staff at the Humane Society worked
with Chantel everyday for nearly 2 years before they could handle
her.
Chantel was then moved to our kitten room so she could have
a window seat and enjoy the wonders outside.
After a few months she started coming around and would let some
of the staff pick her up and even give her kisses. Two weeks
before the fire Chantel was adopted! The Staff call it the most
unusual adoption of the year.
I will explain more in Rainbow's section :)
Rainbow (cat)
Rainbow came to our shelter when she was just
over a year old. She was under quarantine through the Health
Department for biting. She was very unpredictable, Rainbow had
allot of off days were she was very moody and she would love
to slap and bite. Once again the dedicated staff worked with
her for 3 yrs in the Main Cat Adoption room, after this time
the some of the staff was able to pet, bath and groom her. Rainbow
was then allowed to roam free in this room while volunteers
and staff would clean all the cages. Two weeks before the
fire a wonderful woman came into the shelter and she decided
that she was going to adopt
Rainbow and Chantel TOGETHER ... two cats that
have over come sever aggression issues,
are now living in harmony under one roof in their forever home!
Bubbles (cat)
Bubbles is a senior girl who was with us for
several years. She also had the distinction of
being the heaviest cat in the shelter with stumpy legs, barrel-
chested and short tail.
Her size and unusual look often left her passed over.
However, a young couple loved her uniqueness and personality
and could
accommodate her desire to be the only pet in the home.
Claudia (cat)
Claudia came to the shelter over a year ago frost
bitten and starving. She had to have the tips of her ears
and tail removed and due to being here at the shelter she gained
all of her weight back plus some.
Claudia had a particularly difficult time adjusting to cage
life, as she was extremely inquisitive and playful,
so she was prone to occasional fits of frustration. However,
she is fine now with a family who liked her personality and
quirky looks. She has lots of room to play and roam and when
she wants
to relax she has her own cat tree to perch on.
