We’ve added a new segment about some of our long term or special needs animals that have been recently adopted into loving new
homes. Kay has written a little blurb about some of the animals that often got passed over because of age, looks or disposition. Now
they are happy endings. As you read these wonderful stories, remember this is all possible because of your support and belief in us.
Charlotte (cat)
Charlotte was a senior resident who had been adopted out once and returned.
She has been here over a year again before being adopted in December. Her
new family reported that she has settled in nicely with the other pets, including
a dog, enjoys mini baths and sleeps nightly on their beds.
Amber (cat)
Amber was another long time (2 1/2 years) resident who was 17 lbs, black and
a senior; factors, which left her overlooked by visitors to the shelter. However,
this quiet, gentle cat became a loving companion to a senior who chose her
specifically because Amber was not highly adoptable.
Alex (cat)
Alex had been with us for almost 2 years before he found his forever family.
They recently sent us pictures and a letter showing a contented, spoiled Alex
playing with toy mice and posing regally for the camera. They thanked
the shelter for helping match them with the perfect newest addition to their
family.
Smoochie (cat)
Smoochie is an exceptional story as she recently ‘graduated’ from our kitty
rehab room where cats are placed to be socialized until they are suitable for
adoption. Within 1 1/2 weeks she was chosen by her new owner who was
taken by her appreciation of the attention he gave her. Although Smoochie
had been with us for over a year, staff members worked daily with her to
transform her crankiness into playfulness.
Bubbles (cat)
Bubbles was a senior girl who had been with us for several years. She also had
the distinction of being the heaviest cat in the shelter with stumpy legs, barrel-
chested and short tail. Her size and unusual look often left her passed over.
However, a young couple loved her uniqueness and personality and could
accommodate her desire to be the only pet in the home.
Esmeralda (cat)
Esmerelda came into our shelter starved, sickly and flea-infested. She lived in
our spare bathroom for 6 months until she took up long-term residence in our
treatment room. She recovered fully except for chronic sniffles, which
deterred potential new owners. Now she is in a loving home with other pets
where she will get all the attention she craves from her new human and animal
family members.
Claudia (cat)
Claudia came to the shelter over a year ago frost bitten and starving. She had
to have the tips of her ears and tail removed and due to being here at the shelter
she gained all of her weight back plus some. Claudia had a particularly
difficult time adjusting to cage life, as she was extremely inquisitive and playful,
so she was prone to occasional fits of frustration. However, she is fine now
with a family who liked her personality and quirky looks. She has lots of room
to play and roam and when she wants to relax she has her own cat tree to
perch on.
Taffy (cat)
Taffy was a 7-year-old male resident who had been with us over a year. A laid
back gentle giant, Taffy patiently waited until he found his new home with
owners who planned to shower him with attention ad provide lots of space for
him to relax comfortably.
Tealk (cat)
Tealk was another 7 year old male who had been at the shelter for almost 5
months before he was adopted in December. He was quite depressed during
his stay as he was a quiet boy who craved constant cuddles and the face washings
he came to enjoy when he was sick. He came back for a short visit recently
and his owner reported that he follows her around the house from morning
to night and his favorite activity is to run and slide across newspapers she puts
on the floor. She even keeps a facecloth on her nightstand to give him the face
washings he enjoys being spoiled with.
Ivy (dog)
Ivy was a 10-year-old female German Shepherd who was often passed over
once potential owners found out her age even though they loved her gentleness.
However, she has a new home that she shares with a 17-year-old cat
because she demonstrated her gentle nature with one of our shelter cats to her
new family. She is now spoiled with homemade treats daily.
Gizmo & Piper (cats)
These cats were in the shelter approx 5 months; they were both 6-year-old
females that came in together, surrendered by their owners. Piper found a
home first, which was good as she had the hardest time adjusting to shelter
life. Gizmo found a home next, and both are very happy.
Bootz (cat)
Bootz is a 6-year-old female that was in our shelter for over a year. She is very
quiet and shy but was adopted out with a shelter kitten.
Sterling (cat)
Sterling came in with Tealk and 3 other cats. However his constant need for
attention made it difficult to adjust to his shelter stay. He was adopted on the
same day as Tealk to a different family who brought him back for a visit
recently. They reported that he s a great cat that has settled in nicely. They
have even gotten used to his very social nature and provide him with the attention
he needs.
Crystal (cat)
Crystal is a 5-month-old kitten that came to the shelter as a tiny kitten. She
had a serious heart murmur, which means she can never be spayed which
deterred all those who viewed her and loved her sweet playful personality. She
went home to her new owner who absolutely could not leave her at the shelter
once she held her despite her medical condition.
Beanni & Blaire (cats)
These cats were 10-month-old sisters. They came to the shelter almost bald.
They were hard to adopt out as they had to go together and their looks were
not that appealing. However, their hair grew back and their new family fell in
love with their striking appearance and sweet playful natures. Their new family
reports that they are energetic and wonderful additions to their home and
sometimes get into mischief.
Moby (dog)
Moby is a 6-year-old male lab cross. He came in with 11 adult cats from one
house. They were in the shelter almost 5 months. Moby was adopted first to
a family who will take him to their cottage and lake for the summers. And all
but 1 cat have been adopted as well.
Crisp & Sauce (brother and sister cats)
Crisp and Sauce were born at the shelter over 9 months ago, and their mother
is still here. They had to go together and were adopted our once but were
returned to us as they had difficultly adapting to life outside the shelter as they
grew up in cages. However, they recently were adopted again together ad no
problems have been reported this time.
Buttercup (cat)
Buttercup was at the shelter for about a year.
She had a facial deformity and a front leg
was missing a bone, which made her slightly lame.
She has just recently found a forever home.
