Sometimes ‘happy endings’ are sad but it is always important to remember these animals, after being
adopted from the shelter, lived the remainder of their lives happy and loved.
Thank you to Ruby and the staff at the Oshawa Humane Society
Oct 2000 we adopted a rather large and loveable dog named Dryfuss. He
became a big part of our lives instantly. He had a great life with us and us
with him. He spent the summer weekends at the trailer where he played
with his ‘cousin’ Otis. Dryfuss loved swimming in the lake and playing with
the children. Nov 23 2007 Dryfuss passed away and he is missed like we’ve
lost our family member.
We first wanted to thank you for giving us a chance with Dryfuss and look
forward to falling in love with another dog from your organization.
Thank you
Paul, Tanya, Mitch and Jessica Rivers.

Dear Karen, Ruby and Staff
It is with sadness that Bill and I with much regret inform you of
the death of our beloved Jake. Of all the cats at the shelter that
day (August 1995), Bill wanted Jake and Jake wanted Bill. (His
name was Rusty and he was around 5 years old). For 12
wonderful years he brightened our home and hearts. He had a
long and wonderful life full of love and the joy of other siblings
(cats and dogs). Now he has gone to the Rainbow Bridge to be
reunited with his beloved pal and number one groomer Dolittle.
Carry on your wonderful work. The people at the shelter really
do make a difference.
Love and hugs, Bill and Pat

Dear All
I am sure that you are all very busy, but firstly I would like to thank you all
for the dedication and kindness you show to all of the animals. We Adopted
Alex from you on the 1st of December. As you can see from the photos he
has made himself at home. It took him only 3 days before he was comfortable
around us and the house. He loves to play with anything and especially
enjoys running after his pom poms and his mice, which are even better fun if
he knocks them under the sofa and then has to retrieve them. His coat is
gorgeous and very silky as he spends lots of time preening himself before taking
naps. He has found some favorite sleeping places on beds and sofas,
which vary dependant on the time of day.We all love Alex especially my
daughters, as he is a very nice natured cat who enjoys our company and loves
lots of fuss. He will be a great friend to us for many years to come.Merry
Christmas to you all and keep up the good work.
Lets hope that 2008 will find good homes for all of your animals.
Yours Truly, Sharon Kennedy

To the Staff f the Oshawa Humane Society
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing Mindy, adopted
in Sept 07, into our lives. I can’t picture the house without her in it.
She has fit in with us so perfectly. I don’t have a good picture of Mindy and
the kids, but I will send something in soon. I also wanted to take a minute to
comment on the team of people who work at the shelter. I have never seen such a friendly and dedicated group of people who obviously
care for each animal under that roof. You should all be very proud of yourselves. I noticed on your wish list that you could use
Canadian Tire money. I don’t have much right now to give you, but I will continue to save and always send it your way.
Thank you
Elizabeth Weatherby

Hi Everyone
Just wanted to say thank you for doing all the wonderful work you do. We recently adopted a
bunny named Persephone who is just our little sweetheart, we love her. She is completely adjusted
now and a full-fledged member of the family. By the way, we now call her Ruby.
Thank you again

Dear Humane Society
Just a little update on your old friends of over a year ago, Sam and Lucy who are Kingston dogs now.
They settled in well but it was obvious that they had perhaps had some traumatic times in their past.
They had to learn to trust and that trust was along time coming, but is in place now and has been in
place for a while and they are good, loving, obedient (most of the time), dogs. We enjoy them so much.
Sam was frightened and would tremble sometimes when he wasn’t sure what was happening (as when
his routine was changed a bit) until he learned that he was ok. Lucy was somewhat aggressive (not at all
the type to back off) but that can be good too. I thought that Sam would come around more quickly
than Lucy but it seems to be the other way. Lucy is very affectionate and comes to be petted whereas
Sam is more aloof. Could be his royal blood! Sam does come to lie down beside me on the couch
sometimes but he really prefers my husband. Sam puts his head on either lap that is available when he
wants to. Their tails wag all the time now and that was not the case during their first weeks with us. I
guess we all had to get used to each other.
After a year of ointment to try to keep infection down and our vet saying that we were fighting a losing battle we decided to take his good advice and have
Lucy’s surgery done. As you may recall she needed some reconstruction and all went well and she is also losing some weight which she needed to do. She
gained quite a lot of weight in the first year we had her – giving her little treats and such – that little lady loves to eat. She is currently on a reducing diet. We
got enough weight off of her to have the surgery done but she still needs to take off a few pounds yet. It isn’t easy because she
has a long reach on the kitchen counters and more than once we have missed a slice of bread or a muffin and she is very fat at
helping herself to these morsels when our backs are turned for a second or two. Every day it seems they get better and better in
every way and are just a delight to us. They are very, very intelligent. We thank you again for trusting us with their care/
I hope the enclosed cheque will help a little with the good work you do at the Durham County Humane Society Shelter.
Best Regards,
Brian and Anita Hope, Sam and Lucy.
