Tucker
is our large, phat and misable cat, she was temper mentle! Some days were delightful and other days were quite painful. Tucker was in our care at the shelter for 3 years, she was in a metal cage for 2 years and then we had to let her out as she was just to big for the cage!

Tucker owned the front office, she would perch herself on the chair closest to the main entrance and terrorize the dogs as they walked through to go outside! Most staff, some customers and almost all our dogs receieved some type of love bite or scratch that has scarred us all for life :) we never thought for one moment that Tucker would find her forever home!

One afternoon a wonderful woman cam to our shelter and when she heard about Tuckers story and how long she has been with us, she decided to adopt her :) You would never guess it, but Tucker is living in her forever home with another cat and a dog... and they all get along fine. Tucker gets regular grooming and loves to snuggle...

Serendipity or Dip
was surrendered to the Humane Society of Durham Region by her breeder, she is a 2 year old Saint Bernard with the sweetest personality and all of the shelter staff fell head over heels for her!
It did'nt take long before a wonderful family came and adopted her from us, her new name is now "Copper" and she is now living life she so deserves!

Coco our famous pitty
was brought in through Investigations because her owners had abandoned her. Coco is a 5 year old pittbull that everyone adored at the shelter. She was in our care for 2 years before she was stolen from us, threw the help of thelocal police and media, Coco was returned to us one week later unharmed with lots of toys! Coco was in our care for a total of 3.5 yrs, when all our hope of finding a home for her started to fail, she was adopted by a wonderful couple and Coco now lives in a loving home with her family and four legged friend

Sassy
came to us as a barn cat with a litter of kittens. She was born with only 3 legs! Sassy is a very sweet and loving cat and she had free roam of the shelter. She has been adopted and is being lavished with love!
Happy Endings

SHELTER RAT BERNARD PASSES AWAY PEACEFULLY IN HIS SLEEP

On Thursday April 2, 2009, Bernard, our lovable little shelter Rat,
the only small animal to survive the fire passed away in his sleep at
his foster home. He had been suffering for several weeks from a
condition the vets felt was brought on by a brain tumour not related
to the fire. He was just over 1 year old.

Bernard was 7 weeks old when he was rescued along with several other
Rats from being used for snake food. He was starving, scared and
covered in mites when we got him. Ruby took one look at this little
guy and fell in love. He reminded her of the first shelter Rat Ben,
as he was a black Berkshire. He became the shelter mascot immediately
and lived that year growing very large, getting all kinds of treats
and being spoiled rotten. He became a regular at humane education
talks where he was always a hit, even getting his picture in the paper.

The night of the fire he was the last animal brought out alive and we
were so thankful. He was like our little miracle. We asked Rolanda,
a very special volunteer at the shetler who loved Rats if she could
care for him while we had nowhere to take him. She was at the vets in
15 minutes after the call to pick him up. Bernard continued his
school visits after the fire, even travelling as far as Gravenhurst to
visit every classroom in a school.

He was a very special little guy who touched a lot of people in his
short life. He will be missed.
