 Five Paw Salute

Five Paw Salute

To everyone who so kindly donated monetary or items from our wish list to us, your support means so much to so many animals in need. So many of you, businesses and individuals had collections for us and it was wonderful. Thanks to each and every one of you. You made Christmas for the animals at the shelter that much brighter.

To Ben C. – Waggs and Purrs
To Chloe, a six-year-old girl, who made hair clips to sell and donated 50% of all proceeds to the shelter, thank you.

To the staff at Pine Ridge Secondary School and McLaughlin Collegiate for the donation of funds
from dress down days.

To Sinful Inflictions Custom Tattoos for a $500 donation. The owner created a piece of artwork and
auctioned it. Waggs and purrs for this wonderful donation.

To Pet Valu Plus Pets in the Bowmanville Mall, who organized a day for Pet Pics with Santa on Dec. 15 in the mall. Sixty-one people and their pets attended and they raised $375.00 all of which was donated to the shelter. Many thanks to the Badgley’s.

To BMW, who have been volunteering employees to spend a day at the shelter, maintaining their salaries, helping wherever needed. They work hard and our animals certainly appreciate all the extra attention they receive. Thank you.

Maltese Culture & Sports Club
THANK-YOU for the very generous $5000.00 donation for our

Thank-you to Feel Good

“Nobody”

Below are two very special letters from C.E. Broughton Public School in Whitby. An incredible teacher, Mrs. Osmond, has encouraged her great students to help change the world through “Nobody”. They have donated $192.11 to our animals at the shelter as part of their
project. Thanks so much to all of you for a wonderful idea and thinking of us.

The Day We Met Nobody
Wed Oct 17, 2007

Yesterday, our whole class met a doll named Nobody. It all started in the kindergarten room after recess in the afternoon. Mrs. Osmond walked through the classroom with a big suitcase. I wondered what was in it. Then, she gently pulled out a denim doll who she said was Nobody. HE sparkled like a shining star, and I wondered if it was a boy or a girl. The class started to ask questions about
Nobody. What can we do with him? What is he for?

Mrs. Osmond said, “Nobody is our class project. He is here to help us change the world. By the end of the year, he will be Somebody.”
We decided to do a class project with Nobody and help the Humane Society. At the end of the project we will attach something to Nobody to show what we did to help. Then, everyone in our class will have a chance to do a personal project.

We are very excited to help Nobody become Somebody.

Nobody Earns An Apron
Friday October 26/2007

Today, Mrs. Osmond’s class raised money for the Humane Society by having a bake sale. Students gathered in the front lobby at morning recess and everything was sold out in ten minutes.

It all began last week when we voted for the Humane Society as our first charity to help. Sydney initially suggested that we help them because she had adopted a kitten there. Although, we came up with a great big list if charities, everyone agreed that the Humane Society was a good choice. Next, we decided to have a bake sale. Mr. Creer was quick to give us official permission. We set about making announcements and we sent a note home to every student.

Yesterday, Mrs. Osmond brought in a whole bunch of ingredients and mixed up recipes. First, we had to put the recipe in order and then we mixed up lots and lots of dough. Some of us even ended up with dough in our noses. In the middle of baking the cookies, the staff room looked like a pigsty. The teachers who came in at recess were quite surprised and entertained. Mrs. Vandenbroek was there to help, but she couldn’t stop Mrs. Osmond and her clumsy ways. Mrs. O managed to drop a tray in the bottom of the oven and people started eating them out of the garbage…eewwwwww! In the end, when a group of kids were wrapping up the cookies, there were a few burnt
ones. Don’t worry; a couple of volunteers helped us with those (right Mrs. MacDonald?).

At last today arrived. We all brought in additional baked goods from home to sell. At 9:40am, we took mixed trays of goodies to the primary classes. Everyone was so happy to see us. When the recess bell rang, tons of juniors and intermediates flooded to the front lobby to buy our treats. Within ten minutes everything was sold and we were so happy to know that we were going to be able to help the Humane Society. When we counted the money, we discovered that we had raised almost two hundred dollars!

Thank you so much to all the staff and students of C.E. Broughton P.S., as well as to our parents and Mr. Weniger for all of their help. As a class, we have decided that Nobody has earned his chef ’s apron.

Way to go Nobody, you’re well on your way to becoming Somebody.
