The Nobody Doll
School kids are learning
a lot
about themselves from a denim
doll with an identity crisis. The “Who is NOBODY”
program is a pilot project now underway in a total of six
classes in three different
Whitby schools thanks to a donation from local Rotary Clubs.
It begins with a mysterious box delivered by the school principal.
Marked, "To everybody from Nobody," the box contains
Nobody, a faceless denim doll.
When Nobody arrived at the schools in the fall it was a plain
blue denim doll without any character.
For the rest of the school year, students
must help Nobody, become somebody by using their interests
and abilities to help others. Each week a student had
a turn to take the doll home for a week. When the doll was
at home, they had an opportunity to add something to it that
represented the project that they had worked on that demonstrated
their way to be kind to living things.
By
June Nobody had become a Somebody.

There were various fundraising events during the past
few months and we want to
send our thanks for thinking of us.
• On November 15th, students from Centennial College
Recreation & Leisure
Programme held a Paws for Pups Walkathon in Ajax raising
over $400 for our animals.
• Ritson Road Veterinary Clinic held a raffle and
raised $345 for us!
• Lauren E. from Toronto celebrated her 11th birthday
and requested donations to our
animals as opposed to gifts for her – “Animals
are more important then gifts”!
• Some members of the community of Whitevale held
a dog walk-a-thon and raised
funds for the Humane Society of Durham Region!
• Megan L. from Oshawa had her birthday party and
asked for items from “her wish list”
to “make a great donation to our Durham Humane Society,
as they require all the help
we can give them”. We received a multitude of supplies
and gift cards from Staples!
• The TD Bank Creekside Branch in Mississauga sent
in a wonderful donation to help
our animals, in particular for Phoenix.

sent their proceeds to us
• Unilever Canada Foundation made a generous donation.

to help the Humane Society of
Durham Region. Your parents must be so proud. J. Werry of
Courtice raised $285.25
from a lemonade stand. C & E Reid and C. Johnston from
Bowmanville raised $117
from baked goods, lemonade and ice tea. Gemme and “Hungry”

animals in need!
