Holly - This was a Border Collie removed from deplorable
conditions along with three other dogs and Holly’s seven wee
puppies. All were left outside and she was unable to walk. She
was taken to the veterinarian’s office where she received passive
limb exercises and was lifted regularly in order to go to the
washroom and change her position. Slowly, she showed signs of
slight movement in her legs. She was referred to a specialist
where she received further treatment and now she is in a permanent
home, receiving regular water therapy. Now she walks
and moved without any problems.
Of all of these dogs that
came in, only one, a beautiful 4-year-old German Shepherd, is
still waiting to be adopted.
Captain Jack Sparrow - Along with the above-mentioned
dogs that we rescued, this poor little cat came in as well. He
had a badly ulcerated eye, which was erupting and required its
removal.
Bronx - A wonderful big grey tabby who was removed from
terrible surroundings by Debbie, our inspector. Poor Bronx
had some episodes of wheezing and had actually used a little
kitty ventolin puffer. We’re waiting for results from the vet as to
whether it is a bacterial infection or in fact asthma. Since he’s
come back from his vet visit for a few weeks now, he’s been
great. He’s waiting for a new home; you’ll love him if you see
him.
Morgan - Another cat requiring removal of an eye because of
deteriorating conditions
Marci - A sweet little dog, left tied outside the shelter one cold
winter night. Again, another dog with her coat completely
matted in awful shape. She had two cherry eyes and ulceration
of one. She has been adopted by one of our staff members
and lives happily now playing with two canine siblings.
One of our kittens in foster care developed a bowel
obstruction and required surgical intervention. She has recuperated
nicely.
Fred- As mentioned earlier, Fred the shelter cat required all
of his emaining teeth to be removed and several abscesses
treated.

Vance - A sad big orange stray that has been badly attacked,
we have no idea by what. His ear is mutilated and facial
injuries. What a sweetheart. He required suturing and cleaning
up. Now he’s on analgesics for pain and antibiotics. He’s
safe and warm.
Because of many of you who gave so generously to our Gift of
Life.We were able to take some of our animals requiring
specialized care to veterinarians who deal specifically in orthopedics
(bones), ophthalmology (eyes), respirology (lungs), and
oral surgery.
Our Fred, thanks you for allowing him to feel so
much better.
