Trillium Proposal Successfull
We
are extremely pleased to announce that we have been successful in
obtaining a grant from The Ontario Trillium Foundation to expand our Humane Education
programme. Humane Education is an educational programme that is
provided free of charge and teaches school aged children about
responsible pet ownership, pet over population, Bite-off (meeting
strange dogs) and animal abuse.
With
our new grant we will be expanding this programme to include seminars
for high school students and adults around issues concerning animal
welfare. We will then be advertising this programme throughout Durham
Region and recruiting additional volunteer Humane Educators.
If you are interested in volunteering for this program please call the Shelter at (905) 433-2022 x29

The Humane Education Program
is designed to teach children to love and respect animals. This
programmed, presented by volunteers of the Humane Society of Durham
Region, is available for any school groups or community clubs such
as Guides, Scouts or Cubs free of charge.
The programs available are:
Responsible Pet Ownership: nursery, elementary and secondary schools.
- Pet Overpopulation: spay and neuter – grades four and up.
- Bite-Off: meeting strange dogs and protecting yourself from aggressive dogs – all school levels.
- Animal Abuse: its causes and consequences – grades four and up.
The complexity of the issues discussed and presented in the Humane Education Program varies with the ages of the participants.
Shelter Tours are available to individuals and groups on request and as time and circumstances permit.
To arrange for any of the above presentations, contact Heidi, the Humane
Education Program Co-ordinator, through the Humane Society of Durham
Region at 905-433-2022 or email Heidi at hsdr.educate@gmail.com |
